3 Weeks Post Surgery Its been 3 weeks since Clinton's surgery. His hair is beginning to grow back where it was shaved. Because he is a long haired cat I'm expecting it will be a long time before he has his beautiful coat back. Oddly enough the hair where he was shaved on the front leg seems to be taking the longest to begin to grow back. The hair where his pain patch was is also very slow to grow back. He doesn't mind me touching or petting him where he was shaved though and he's not in any pain. The incision line is less and less visible every day. He's running around more and more all the time and beginning to jump again. For the first little while when he played it was mainly laying on his back and batting at a string I held overhead but he's starting to chase jingle balls again. He's not as into it as he used to be but I'm hoping that'll come back. He's starting to chase Kodak again and is full out running. His running and walking look funny but they're effective. He puts all his weight on the leg but favours it a lot. When he's standing he tends to stand just on the other legs and he sits or lays down a lot more than he used to. I've also noticed that since his surgery he's more skittish than he used to be. He's very affectionate with me but he doesn't hop onto the couch anymore in order to sit behind out heads and purr in our ears. He seems content to just lay on the couch and cuddle when I come to him.

More than a Year Later Clinton's surgery was December 7, 2006. Today is February 13, 2008 and Clinton is perfect. His hair has grown in completely and nobody but me really thinks about his surgery. He can jump from the ground onto our coffee table and he has no perceptible limp. He kinda scurries around when he runs but I think that's just his personality. He's a good kitten, though no longer a kitten, he's still my baby. He likes to walk up to me and lean against my legs. I'll reach down and give him a pat and if he's in the mood I often rub his back legs. I can rub his hips with no care for which one I'm rubbing. I can tell he has full range of motion in both hips because when he lays on the ground to have his tummy rubbed he lays with his legs open and clearly has no problems. His surgery was a complete success. I'm so pleased. When Clinton was having his surgery it was a lot of money and we were worried at the time whether he would recover fully and be a healthy cat. I still sometimes wonder whether he'll be more prone to get problems in his hip as he gets older but for the time being he's perfect. If anybody out there has questions please feel free to comment on my blog and I'd be happy to send along any answers I have. |
